Kenyan President William Ruto says that a bill containing contentious tax hikes would "be withdrawn", dramatically reversing course after more than 20 people died and parliament was ransacked by protesters opposed to the legislation. SOUNDBITE
Seventy children were still missing following a blaze that destroyed a school dormitory in central Kenya and killed at least 17 young pupils, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says in a statement in Endarasha where the tragedy took place overnight. SOUNDBITE
A fire at a primary school dormitory which killed at least 17 children in central Kenya is an "injury to the republic", interior Minister Kithure Kindiki says in a statement during a visit to the scene where he also offered condolences to families of the victims. Anti-government protestors in the capital's central business district are being quickly dispersed as police fire tear gas, and make arrests, in a show of force. The East African nation,has been rocked by weeks of sometimes deadly protests against Ruto's two-year-old administration, mostly led by young Gen-Z Kenyans. IMAGES
