One of the most powerful storms so far this year hit Taiwan with strong winds and torrential rain Saturday, causing havoc across the country, but few fatalities.
Images of the building from which a French family of five jumped off the seventh-floor balcony, leaving four dead and one seriously injured in the Swiss town of Montreux. Five members of the same family, a 40-year-old man, his 41-year-old wife and her twin sister, along with the couple's eight-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son went off the balcony of a building in the heart of the town on the Swiss Riveria. All of them except the son died when they hit the ground, while the boy was taken to hospital in serious condition. IMAGES
Several people have been killed and hundreds more injured after a massive earthquake struck southern Taiwan, toppling at least one high-rise residential building, early Saturday morning, according to a BBC report.
At least five people are now known to have died while at least 50 others were injured after an Amtrak train derailed near Philadelphia Tuesday night. Amtrak’s Northeast Regional train 188, derailed Tuesday night as it travelled from Washington DC to New York. The accident occurred at around 9.20 p.m. Tuesday as the train passed through Philadelphia.
