US senators have reached an agreement to stave off a catastrophic credit default, after Democrats accepted a Republican offer to raise the debt limit for two months. US President Joe Biden's national security advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Saudi Arabia and Israel at the weekend for talks with leaders over the conflict in Gaza, the White House says.
