US State Department spokesman Ned Price says the United States is open to maintaining its diplomatic presence at Kabul's airport after a withdrawal deadline at the end of the month if conditions permit. "If it is safe and responsible for us to potentially stay longer, that is something we may be able to look at," Price tells reporters during a press briefing. SOUNDBITE
US State Department spokesman Ned Price calls on the Taliban to follow through on promises made after their takeover of Afghanistan to respect the rights of citizens, including women. "If the Taliban says that they are going to respect the rights of their citizens, we will be looking for them to uphold that statement, to make good on that statement," he tells reporters during a press briefing. The US will start sending in daily flights to evacuate Afghan interpreters and others who assisted the Americans and are fearful for their lives due to the Taliban's sweeping offensive across Afghanistan, US State Department spokesman Ned Price announces.
