Five members of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, the founding institution of mountaineering which is celebrating its 200th anniversary, climb the Mont Blanc to raise awareness of global warming which is forcing guides to adapt.
For most of us, scaling the world's tallest mountains is just a pipe dream. It requires deft skill, in-depth knowledge of difficult terrain and no shortage of fearlessness; the smallest errors can lead to irreversible accidents. As a high mountain guide from Chamonix, Tristan Knoertzer knows this all too well. He works with the Chamonix mountain guide company and is the project manager of its 200th anniversary celebrations. He joined us for Perspective.
Equipped with cutting-edge tools and a drone, around twenty people climbed the summit in mid-September to carry out point-by-point measurements.
The mayor of Saint-Gervais in France suggests a €15,000 deposit would discourage unwary climbers from ignoring danger warnings.
