Russia vetoes UN vote to extend key Syria aid route by 9 months

Description

Russia vetoes a nine-month extension of a key Syria aid route at the UN Security Council, a day after the vital mechanism providing life-saving support to millions of people expired. While many council members including the United States and Britain have called for a full year extension, Russia has insisted on just six months and rejected the nine-month compromise proposed by Switzerland and Brazil.
