In northern France's Pas-de-Calais department, two rivers -- the Aa and the Liane -- have been placed on red alert for flooding. In recent days, the region has seen flooding that has caused extensive damage with no decrease in water levels expected until Friday, according to Météo-France. IMAGES
Aerial images show flooding in France's northern Pas-de-Calais region, after heavy showers overnight from Monday to Tuesday. The floods have hit dozens of towns in the north of the country, leaving roads sometimes only passable in boats and dozens of schools closed, according to authorities. IMAGES
The level of the Adour river remains high in Bayonne, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of southwest France, but the flood waters have started to recede, leaving marks on the pillars of the Saint-Esprit bridge. IMAGES
Ten municipalities in the Pas-de-Calais region were hit by flooding on Monday night following heavy rain storms that caused the Liane River to burst its banks. The river flows into the English Channel at Boulogne-sur-Mer. In Saint-Etienne-au-Mont, 10 people were evacuated and 120 homes were affected. IMAGES
