US welcomes Taliban Eid ceasefire, urges extension

Description

The United States welcomes a ceasefire by Taliban insurgents for the Eid al-Fitr holiday and urges a broader end to violence as Washington withdraws troops. "We do welcome this announcement and any move that allows the Afghan people a reprieve from violence. We urge the Taliban to extend the ceasefire," State Department spokesman Ned Price tells reporters. SOUNDBITE
