Caster Semenya appears before the highest chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for a hearing into whether the double Olympic champion can be required to lower her testosterone levels to compete. The 33-year-old runner won an earlier round at the ECHR, which last July ruled she was the victim of discrimination from the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). IMAGES
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says he will not allow the European Court of Human Rights to block the government's planned policy of deporting migrants to Rwanda. Speaking after the UK Supreme Court ruled the policy unlawful, he says he will introduce "emergency legislation" to designate Rwanda a safe country. "If the (European Court of Human Rights) chooses to intervene against the express wishes of parliament, I am prepared to do what is necessary to get the flights off" he says. SOUNDBITE
The International Criminal Court throws out an appeal by Dominic Ongwen, a Ugandan child soldier-turned-commander in the Lord's Resistance Army, against his conviction for war crimes. Dominic Ongwen, who was himself abducted aged nine by the rebel group led by the fugitive Joseph Kony, was found guilty last year of murder, rape and sexual enslavement in northern Uganda during the early 2000s. Missouri's attorney general Eric Schmitt announces that his state will be the first "to effectively end abortion" in the United States, after the conservative-dominated Supreme Court overturned the landmark 1973 "Roe v. Wade" decision that enshrined a woman's right to an abortion, saying that individual states can now permit or restrict the procedure themselves. "I pledge to continue to fight for our most fundamental right: the right to life," Schmitt says in a video statement posted to social media. SOUNDBITE
Registrar of the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Abubacarr M. Tambadou praises "years of hard work, dedication and commitment" after war crimes judges upheld the genocide conviction of former Bosnian Serb military chief Ratko Mladic over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, Europe's worst act of bloodshed since World War II. The UN tribunal in The Hague rejected Mladic's appeal against his 2017 life sentence for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity over the 1992-5 Bosnian war. SOUNDBITE
