Residents move in boats through the flooded streets of a town in northern Bolivia after heavy rains caused the Acre River to overflow. The city of Cobija on the border with Brazil is suffering unprecedented flooding, with water levels reaching 17 meters (55.7 ft). The rainy season in Bolivia, which began in December and will last until March, has so far left 40 people dead and nearly 10,000 families affected, according to the government. IMAGES
A stranded cargo ship causes river traffic to be halted on the Rhine in western Germany after suffering a technical fault, authorities say. The incident comes at a time when water transport is already suffering as the result of drought, which has caused the water in the river to drop to a level considered inaccessible for shipping. The vessel is stuck at St Goar and Oberwesel, between the cities of Mainz and Koblenz, river police say, adding that they expect to clear the stricken ship within a day. IMAGES
