One Million STDs Are Diagnosed Every Single Day

Description

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than one million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are contracted daily. The WHO lists the four most frequent contracted infections are chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and syphilis. WHO data shows that on average 1 in every 25 people globally has at least one of these STIs, sometimes known as STDs. STIs are transmitted through unprotected sexual contact, and some can be passed from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth. If left untreated, these infections can cause infertility in men and women, stillbirths, ectopic pregnancy and an increased risk of HIV. CNN reports that WHO researchers have confirmed that there are more than 376 million new cases per year.
