The United States denounces China's approval of sweeping changes to Hong Kong's electoral system, saying Beijing was stifling democracy in the financial capital. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Wednesday delivered her annual policy speech which has been postponed after she was ordered to travel to mainland China for meetings with central government officials in October. The address was delivered at the Legislative Council chamber with no attendance from pro-democracy lawmakers - all of whom have tendered their resignation earlier this month after the ousting of four of their colleagues by pro-Beijing authorities.
