Car bomb hits near church in Qamishli, northeast Syria

People gather at the scene of a car bomb explosion outside a church in the Kurdish-majority city of Qamishli in northeast Syria. There was no immediate claim for the attack, which Syrian state television said left several people wounded and cars damaged. Syria's Kurds have led the US-backed fight in the war-torn country against the Islamic State group, which continues to claim deadly attacks despite its territorial defeat in March. IMAGES

  • Bomb Hits Evacuee Buses In Syria

About 100 people were killed Saturday in a car bomb explosion targeting pro-regime evacuees in Syria. According to CNN, the blast outside of Rashidin, a suburb of Aleppo, struck buses of people who were leaving their towns as part of a rebel-regime swap. The evacuees, many from mainly pro-regime Shia villages, were bound for regime-held parts of Aleppo. They had been allowed to leave their villages as part of a Shia-Sunni exchange agreement between the Syrian government and insurgents who have been fighting a civil war for six years.
