Rio de Janeiro residents walk by cars damaged by torrential rain, as city workers try to clean the streets of the rubbles left by flash floods that killed at least three people. A man was killed after he was caught in flooding in the south of the city, while two women died when a house in a nearby favela collapsed, Rio de Janeiro mayor Marcelo Crivella told reporters. Schools throughout the city were closed and power was knocked out in some areas. Heavy downpours often cause flooding in Rio de Janerio as rain overwhelms the city´s creaky infrastructure. People inspect the damage left after a residential building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv was struck by Russian forces, injuring at least 15, according to the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration. Heavy rain in southern Brazil has caused a huge landslide along the RS-446 national highway. The rivers of southern Brazil are once again in flood as rescue operations intensify and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva admits that the authorities were "unprepared" for a disaster of this scale.
