Former BBC news anchor Huw Edwards, one of the most recognisable faces on UK television, arrives at court charged with three counts of making indecent images of children. Edwards resigned from the BBC in April on "medical advice", six months after he was initially arrested, and was charged on June 26. The offences, which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat, police said in a statement. IMAGES

The front pages of British newspapers lead with news that Huw Edwards has been identified as the BBC presenter at the centre of revelations of sexual misconduct first reported by The Sun newspaper. On Wednesday 12 July London's Metropolitan Police concluded that no crime has been committed, but the BBC continues an internal investigation into potential inappropriate behaviour by the news anchor, who has been one of the BBC's most trusted presenters.
