Ten children in Gaza are "losing one leg or two legs" every day, says Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, as he delivers a press briefing in Geneva. SOUNDBITE
The World Health Organization calls for a humanitarian corridor to be established into and out of the Gaza Strip, which has been placed under total siege by Israel. "WHO is calling for an end to the violence... a humanitarian corridor is needed to reach people with critical medical supplies," WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic tells a press briefing in Geneva. UNRWA has funding until the "end of August", explains the agency's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, as he delivers a press briefing on the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. "I was referring to our regular budget, which basically covers the 30,000 staff" Lazzarini says, adding that UNRWA still has "a shortfall of about 100-140 million dollars to bridge the end of the year." UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for an immediate halt to hostilities between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the return of hostages and an increase in aid to the beseiged Palestinian territory, in a video address to an international donors' conference in Kuwait. SOUNDBITE
Hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip "only have enough fuel to run health services...for three more days" says WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who blames closed border crossings for the shortage. "Fuel that we expected to be allowed in today has not been allowed in" he says, explaining that, if supplies are not able to get into Gaza, the WHO "cannot sustain our life-saving support." SOUNDBITE
