French police has stopped a farmers' convoy of hundreds tractors heading towards the Rungis wholesale food market south of Paris. Some 200 to 300 tractors are now sitting in the town of Sully-sur-Loire, 170 km south of Rungis. Setting off from the south-west of France at the call of union Coordination rurale, the group of angry farmers grew as they drove up the nation, with more and more joining along the way. IMAGES

Hundreds of tractors block traffic on a stretch of motorway leading to Strasbourg and the European Parliament, to denounce the new Common Agriculture Policy, which will see European aid used for more agro-ecological purposes. IMAGES
At the behest of several trade unions around France, policemen and women participate in a "march of anger" at Place de la Bastille to protest institutional unrest, rising suicide rates and proposed reform of pensions. It is the biggest police demonstration of its kind in Paris for 20 years. IMAGES
