Crowds hit streets in cities around the world to mark International Women's Day on Wednesday March 8. The event, to highlight gender equality and women's rights, comes amid a wave of threats to both: from the Taliban's pulling back of numerous rights in Afghanistan to the reversal of the Roe vs Wade abortion ruling in the United States. "As a woman, I must keep speaking up" says one participant in Tokyo, "I'm trying to be the voice for those who are not able to do it themselves."
