Several hundred pro-Catalan independence activists demonstrate in front of the Italian consulate in Barcelona to denounce the arrest of Carlos Puigdemont. The pro-independence MEP and former Catalan president was arrested in Sardinia and is awaiting a hearing which will decide his potential extradition to Spain, where he is still being prosecuted for his role in the 2017 secession attempt. Pro-independence demonstrators gather in Barcelona. Catalonia has been gripped by unrest since the controversial Supreme Court verdict on October 14 which unleashed a week of huge demonstrations that quickly turned violent, with angry protesters clashing with riot police. IMAGES
