Olympic sprint track cycling involves two teams competing against each other for the fastest completion time. Men compete in a team of three, while women compete in teams of two. Both teams start on opposite sides of the track. Each member must lead his or her team for one lap. The track cycling events will take place at the Velodrome in London’s Olympic Park.
In Olympics cycling, the men’s sprint event is a race between two riders over three laps of a 1,000-meter track. The rider who comes in first for two of the three laps wins.
Olympic Park - BMX Track will host the Cycling BMX event for the 2012 London Games. The men’s track is 450 meter long and the women’s is 440 meter long. Both outdoor tracks consist of jumps, berms and banked corners. The race will start on an 8m high ramp and each race lasts around 40 seconds.
The Olympic Wrestling competition consists of two disciplines: Greco-Roman, in which athletes use their upper bodies and arms only; and free style, in which athletes can use any part of their body. Wrestling bouts take place on a 12 meter square mat and can last for a maximum of three periods of two minutes each. The aim is to pin the opponent’s shoulder on the ground. A period is won by technical superiority, scoring two holds worth three points, or gaining a six-point lead.
