Huge crowds gathered as technology giant Apple opened their first store in South Korea on Saturday in the nation's capital Seoul. Once the doors opened at the new Apple Garosugil, located in the trendy neighbourhood of Gangnam, the customers were greeted with cheers by staff members. Temperatures outside reached -16 Celsius, or just over 3 Fahrenheit, but thousands of dedicated Apple fans still made their way outside for the grand opening of the first Apple store in South Korea.
Samsung confirmed this week that its next flagship phone will be unveiled in February. We didn’t get an exact date, but the company usually times the announcement to coincide with Mobile World Congress, an annual expo set for February 26-March 1. So you can expect the Galaxy S9 to debut around then. Although the specs themselves may not be a huge upgrade, according to a leak on Reddit, the camera could be getting a major overhaul. The leak mentions “super slow-mo” video, and rumors has it the phone will be able to capture video at 1,000 frames per second. That’s a nice step up from the Galaxy S8, which maxed out at 240fps.
2018 could be the year that Samsung enthusiasts - particularly those who bought into Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem - will finally get their comeuppance. In a report from Bloomberg, sources told the publication that 2018 will be the year Samsung’s smart speaker should be announced and be available to buy - pointing to a release date in the first half of the new year. While the sources couldn’t provide too many details on the shape, size or feature-set of the speaker, they did corroborate earlier reports that it would utilize Bixby, Samsung’s proprietary smart assistant that works like Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa. The most interesting detail revealed in the new report was that Samsung plans on actually undercutting Apple’s smart home speaker, the Apple HomePod, by around $150.
Even though the iphone is hot in the news right now, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 still appears to have a lot a heat building up to its release. The Note 8 is the most-pre-ordered entry in the Note family. This is a slight shock to the company, due to the fact that the last phone they released had battery issues, and many customers were unhappy and did not want a samsung phone any more. The phone hits store shelves in the US and UK this Friday, September 15.
