Over 1,000 Muslims gathered to honour Imam Maulama Alauddin Akonjee and his associate Thara Uddin at their funeral in New York City on Monday, after the two were killed in Queens in what many in the city's Muslim community believe to be a hate crime. Following the funeral, the mourners marched through Queens, holding placards reading 'We want justice' and 'Stop Hate Crimes'.
A New York man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday after being charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of a New York Muslim imam and his assistant, who were gunned down over the weekend. Ashraf Fahim reports.
