Thousands of NATO troops hit the ground in Poland in a massive show of force as the alliance launches its biggest war games in eastern Europe since the Cold War. IMAGES
Russian naval and military forces stage drills in the Black Sea and on the Crimean peninsula, in a show of force on the peninsula which was annexed by Russia last year. Diane Hodges reports.
NATO forces cross the Vistula River at Korzeniewo in Poland as part of the US-led defence alliance's Exercise Dragon 24, involving around 4,500 soldiers and almost 1,000 vehicles. Dragon 24 is itself part of Exercise Steadfast Defender 24, NATO's largest military exercise since the Cold War, which is designed to test its defences in the face of Russia's war on Ukraine. IMAGES
Angolan president, Joao Lourenco, hosts talks in Luanda to discuss the rising tensions in eastern DRC with their neighbours, Rwanda. Several heads of state can be seen arriving, including the President of Burundi and former president of Kenya. Paul Kagame, the Rwandan president was not in attendance, instead Vincent Biruta, minister for foreign affairs represented the country at the summit. Eastern DRC has witnessed fierce fighting in recent months between Congolese troops and the M23 rebel group, prompting the East African Community (EAC) bloc to deploy a joint regional force to quell the violence. Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti publishes images of the UK ambassador to Russia Deborah Bronnert arriving at the Russian Foreign Ministry headquarters. Protesters shout "Britain is a terrorist state" as she arrives, while Moscow maintains its claims that British navy personnel were involved in a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
