The 56 year old man began to develop symptoms while in Sierra Leone, where he was working as an emergency doctor. He will be treated in Spallanzani Hospital in Rome, using an experimental drug.

Plastic surgeon Guo Shuzhong conducted one of the world's first successful ear to arm transplant operations on Wednesday, giving his patient the hope that he will be able to hear again from an ear made of his own flesh. His patient, Mr. Ji, lost his ear in the traffic accident and felt 'incomplete'. Due to the tree-step operation, he may be able to hear again with an artificial one, if it can be successfully re-attached to his head. The ear was made out of the patient's rib cartilage and then planted on his right arm at a hospital in Xi'an, China. It may be only 4 months before Mr. Ji has his ear again.
Dr. Balbir Singh, a cardiologist at the Medanta Medicity Hospital, successfully implanted a Micra Transcatheter Pacing System, or TPS, the world's smallest pacemaker, into a patient. Unlike normal pacemakers the TPS is small enough to implant directly into the heart using small instruments such as tines or prongs, allowing patients to walk out the hospital immediately after the procedure.
After a month in a hospital in Rome, Italy's only Ebola patient fully recovers and is released from the hospital after contracting the virus in West Africa. Gavino Garay reports.
