Thousands of demonstrators filled the streets in central Paris during a protest to demand legislation and funds to fight violence against women. Calling for two billion euros per year, demonstrators carried placards reading "0.6% of rapists convicted" or "0.1% of GDP, it's too much to ask?". IMAGES
Several thousand people demonstrate in Paris against job cuts and for wage increases. This first demonstration of the post-holiday period, at the behest of France's biggest trade union the CGT, as well as Solidaires, FTUU and youth organisations (Fidl, MNL, Unef and UNL), began at Place de la République and heads towards Place de la Nation, led by a strong police presence.
