Monkey Buiness? Japanese Bar Hires Macaques to Wait Tables

Description

One bar in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya has become famous for engaging in the best sort of monkey business. Patrons of the Kayabukiya Tavern, a traditional Japanese sake house, can monkey around with a troop of trained macaques while eating and drinking. A small band of the little simians, decked out in adorable matching costumes, marches through the restauarant, causing sounds of sheer delight from stunned patrons to ripple throughout the establishment.

  • Monkey Business! Moneymaking Macaques Relax at Monkey Banquet Festival

It was all monkey business in Thailand's Lopburi on Sunday as working macaque monkeys took a load off to relax at the Monkey Banquet Festival at the city’s Phra Prang Sam Yot shrine. Monkeys went bananas at the annual festival, which is organised by locals to reward the long-tail macaque monkeys who bring tourism to the area. The event was attended by hundreds of people, some in disbelief at just how cheeky the monkeys could be. Of course, there was plenty of monkeying around. The festival went ahead despite the fact that the country is in mourning for the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died aged 88 at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital on Thursday, October 13.
