No Covid vaccine is going to save the planet from the upheaval to our livelihoods. Even if under a best case scenario, there is a roaring recovery. Entire industries will never be the same and the digital acceleration of lockdown means jobs that will never return. To soften the blow, most of the West is printing money and putting it in consumers pockets, like the US which sent out stimulus checks of 12-hundred dollars to every taxpayer over the summer.

French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announced a “Marshall” plan for the tourism sector of up to €18 billion euros to save the industry, hardly hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Tourism is “a national priority”, Philippe said, as the sector represents 7% of the country’s GDP and 2 million jobs. “This is good news and gives the tourism sector a bit hope”, Michael Dodds, director of Normandie Tourisme, told FRANCE 24.
