Long accused of fueling the smog descending on Pakistan every winter, the country’s brick makers are up against regulations designed to reduce pollution -- in a move kiln owners say is unfairly targeting the industry and threatening jobs of the poorest.
Of the 50 European cities choking on high levels of smog, 33 are Polish. In Silesia, a southern mining region, air quality is sometimes worse than in Beijing or Delhi and the number of smog-related diseases is growing.
Dozens of schoolchildren take part in protest against hazardous air pollution levels, calling on Indian authorities to take stringent action to tackle problem.
