The US Supreme Court is expected to deliver a ruling Wednesday over tough new restrictions on the widely used abortion pill mifepristone ordered by a Texas judge last week. The drug in question is used in around half of the abortions carried out in the country today and is widely viewed as the safest, most effective method of abortion in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.
In Mexico, the Supreme Court has decriminalised abortion, ruling that the current laws 'violate the human rights of women'. The decision will increase abortion access throughout Mexico and marks a major victory for activists in the Roman Catholic country. FRANCE 24's Leo McGuinn explains.

The US Supreme Court has given itself until the end of the week to decide the fate of the abortion pill Mifepristone. Until then the drug will remain available as the court reviews a lower court ruling on the medication which accounts for more than half of abortions in the US. The justices are deciding whether to uphold a ban on the drug issued by a judge in Texas. FRANCE 24's Vedika Bahl and Antonia Kerrigan tell us more.
The US Supreme Court is leaving women's access to a widely used abortion pill untouched until at least Friday, while the justices consider whether to allow restrictions on the drug mifepristone to take effect. The court is dealing with a new abortion controversy less than a year after its conservative majority overturned Roe v. Wade and allowed more than a dozen states to effectively ban abortion outright.
