Hundreds of people gather to pay their respects and lay flowers at the grave of opposition leader Alexei Navalny on the final day of a presidential election that is guaranteed to cement Vladimir Putin's hardline rule. Before his death in an Arctic prison last month, Navalny urged Russians to protest on March 17. His widow, Yulia Navalnaya, has reiterated his call and said protesters should show up in large numbers at the same time to overwhelm polling stations. IMAGES
Voters cast their ballots at a polling station in the Russian capital Moscow, on the second day of a three-day presidential election set to hand veteran leader Vladimir Putin another six years in power. Victory will allow the former KGB agent to stay in the Kremlin until at least 2030, longer than any Russian leader since Catherine the Great in the eighteenth century and eclipsing Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has never asked for Western troops to fight Russia's invasion, the White House says after French President Emmanuel Macron said he would not rule out the idea. "President Zelensky isn't asking for that, he's just asking for the tools and capabilities.
