'France needs to polish its image' ahead of Rugby World Cup & 2024 Paris Olympics

Description

Ahead of the French Cup Final at the Stade de France, President Emmanuel Macron shook hands with players in the tunnel before the game, under high security. He remained pitch perfect, staying off the football field and sidestepping fears of a hostile reception following his hugely unpopular pension reform, which has sparked several months of protests and strikes. For more on the convergence of sports, sociopolitics, and security ahead of the Rugby World Cup across France and the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, FRANCE 24 is joined by our Sports "Maestro" and Editor James Vasina and Eurosport's Ruben Slagter. We're reminded that the French Cup Final match pitting Toulouse against Nantes wasn't a "high-risk game" at all. So, it begs the question: By attending the final, is Macron mending fences or putting them up?
