Ukrainian rescue services trawl through the smoking rubble left after a Russia strike on the port city of Mykolaiv near the Black Sea. "Russians hit the city centre. A garage and a 3-story residential building are on fire," Mykolaiv governor Vitaliy Kim wrote on Telegram. Images show a Ukrainian air defence system working during a strike on Kyiv overnight. Ukraine said on Tuesday that it had downed an entire barrage of Russian drones and missiles, including six hypersonic missiles, just hours ahead of a visit by a Chinese special envoy. Posting on Twitter, Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said "another unbelievable success for the Ukrainian Air Forces! Last night, our sky defenders shot down SIX russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and 12 other missiles". A US contractor was killed and five American service members, plus another US contractor were injured after a drone struck a military base in northeast Syria, the Pentagon says.
