Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga calls off demonstrations planned for Monday and said his party would sit down for dialogue with the government after two weeks of protests. "We stand down our demonstrations for Monday, that is tomorrow, April 3, 2023. But in doing so, we want to emphasise that the right to assemble, to demonstrate, petition, and speak are iron-clad as provided for in our constitution," the veteran opposition leader tells reporters. Kenya's Supreme Court dismisses Raila Odinga's petition challenging the August election results on the basis of a fraudulent vote tallying process, and upholds the election of William Ruto as president. SOUNDBITE
Raila Odinga and Martha Karua arrive at the Supreme Court to file a hard copy of their petition challenging the presidential election results after having filed an online petition. Odinga has rejected the outcome of the poll, branding it a "travesty." He narrowly lost to Ruto by around 230,000 votes, less than two percentage points. IMAGES
Nairobi shuts down as it awaits the results of the tight presidential elections. Some supporters of Raila Odinga gather in the capital to celebrate in advance what they see as a race won in advance. The two favourite candidates to succeed to Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and William Ruto have been neck-to-neck since the tallying started on the 9th of August. IMAGES
