France: Emmanuel Macron's party wins majority of seats in French Legislative elections
French far-right leader Marine Le Pen sailed through to parliamentary run-offs, winning over 55% of the votes in her constituency in northern France on Sunday (June 12). FRANCE 24's Luke Shrago reports.
French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist alliance won the first round of lower house elections on Sunday by a razor-thin margin over the left bloc of Jean-Luc Melenchon although it is likely to extend its lead in next weekend's second-round runoff. Polls show far-right leader Marine Le Pen could win a seat in her northern constituency from the first round, by gaining over 50% of the votes. Marine Le Pen's National Rally scored 19.3% of the popular vote, the poll showed. FRANCE 24's Alison Sargent reports from the National Rally headquarters in Hénin-Beaumont.
