Yangon, Aug 3 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar has surpassed 10,000 Covid-19 deaths, according to latest official figures, and comes amid an uncontrolled wave of the virus adding to the deep political and social crisis as a result of the military coup.Health authorities reported 3,689 new infections and 330 deaths, a new high in the daily death tolls, bringing the total to 306,354 cases, including 10,061 deaths. However, groups of Myanmar doctors warn that official records do not reflect the disastrous reality in the country due to the collapse of the health system and the limited testing capacity. • India’s COVID-19 death toll could be 10 times more than official count, study suggests

Bangalore / New Delhi, Jul 20 (EFE/EPA).- The official Covid-19 death toll in India stood at around 400,000 at the end of June 2021 but the reality could be “catastrophically worse,” with estimates of excess deaths in the Asian country during the pandemic being as high as 4 million according to a new research published Tuesday.Excess mortality is an estimation of the number of deaths from all causes during a crisis that are above normal levels.Earlier this year, India was overwhelmed by a huge second wave of Covid-19, which pushed the country’s hospitals to the brink amid a shortage of oxygen and medical supplies.
