La Palma, Sep 19 (EFE).- Santa Cruz de La Palma, Spain, Sep 19 (EFE).- More than 5,000 people have been evacuated - at least 500 of them tourists - due to the eruption on Sunday of a volcano located in the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge area on the Spanish island of La Palma, one of the most active volcanic zones in the Canary Islands archipelago, after a week in which thousands of small earthquake-like shocks and rumblings had been detected in the region.The Cumbre Vieja is located southeast of the island's most populous municipality, Los Llanos.No injuries or worse have been reported so far, but the eruption spewed lava and a tall column of dark ash and other volcanic material into the air over an unpopulated area, according to an EFE correspondent who witnessed the event. 100,000 Evacuated as Bali's Mt. Agung Volcano Eruption Imminent

The warning for Bali’s rumbling volcano Mount Agung was raised to its highest level on Monday, leading Indonesian authorities to expand the exclusion zone to a 10 kilometer radius, or a 6.2 mile radius, widening the evacuation order to 100,000 people and closing the island’s holiday airport. Mt Agung has been spewing ash and debris into the sky for several days, but experts now fear a major eruption is imminent which could result in a natural disaster on a scale not seen for decades.
