The United States says that it is now up to Iran to make hard decisions in order to restore the 2015 deal on limiting its nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions. After nearly a year of negotiations, "the onus is on Tehran to make decisions that it might consider difficult," State Department spokesperson Ned Price tells reporters. SOUNDBITE
The United States urges Moscow and Tehran to take the "decisions" needed to revive the 2015 nuclear accord, putting the ball squarely in their camp as last-minute Russian demands threatened to derail the process. "We remain confident that we can achieve mutual return to compliance in fairly short order" if decisions are "made in places like Tehran and Moscow," State Department spokesperson Ned Price tells reporters during a briefing after the European Union announced a pause in negotiations. JCPOA roundtable negotiations in Vienna, which aim to revive the Iran nuclear deal, are put on pause so that European diplomats can review the proposals by the Islamic republic. The talks are "most likely" to resume in a couple of days. IMAGES
