The United States commits to donating 80 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine abroad by the end of the month, White House Covid-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients says during a news briefing. India will manufacture at least one billion more Covid-19 vaccine doses by the end of next year in a joint initiative announced with the United States, Japan and Australia. Following the nations' first four-way summit, President Joe Biden's national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, says the so-called Quad have made a "massive joint commitment" to vaccines, committing to "delivering up to one billion doses to ASEAN, the Indo-Pacific and beyond by the end of 2022." British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirms that England will lift most of its Covid curbs on July 19th, despite a recent surge in cases. Scientists are fretting that the ending of measures such as mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing spells trouble, and said other guidance such as working from home should also stay in place.
