A Super Blue Moon rises over Sao Paulo skyline. The "blue supermoon" that rises on August 19, 2024, is the unification of a super Moon and a blue Moon. The term "blue Moon" has nothing to do with color but refers to the third full Moon in an astronomical season of four. A super Moon, meanwhile, refers to a full Moon that occurs when it is closer to Earth in its orbit, resulting in a slightly larger and brighter appearance. IMAGES
The Super Blue Moon rises over Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock. The Super Blue Moon is a celestial occurrence which combines two events, a supermoon, when the moon is closest to earth, and a blue moon - the third full moon in a season of four. Although this rare cosmic event usually happens once every 10 years, NASA said that there was a Super Blue Moon in August last year as well. IMAGES
