Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Wednesday defended his controversial amnesty deal for Catalonia’s separatists in parliament a day before the Socialist leader seeks the endorsement of the chamber to form a new government.
Sánchez is expected to be reelected after his Socialist party reached deals with small parties, including the fringe Catalan separatist party.
Opponents of acting Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's pact to form a coalition government with the pro-independence Catalan party have protested again outside the Socialist Party headquarters in Madrid. Tension boiled over at the demonstration resulting in several arrests.
Spain’s socialist party (PSOE) has struck a deal with Catalan separatist party Junts per Catalunya that could pave the way for acting prime minister Pedro Sánchez to form a coalition government as early as next week.
The show of force followed repeated calls from party representatives for disaffected Socialists to support Feijóo's investiture to impede Sánchez from striking a deal with the separatists.
