The firefighters are set to deploy extra aircraft as renewed heat and wind threatened recent progress in bringing the blaze under control. Firefighters battle a a huge wildfire on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife that has forced the evacuation of thousands of people and has so far destroyed more than 3,800 hectares (9,400 acres) of land, according to the regional government. The fire, which broke out late on Tuesday, has been raging through a forested area with steep ravines in the northeastern part of the island which is part of the Spanish archipelago that lies off the coast of northwestern Africa. Hundreds of firefighters continue to battle Spain's first major forest fire of the year, as authorities say that they're beginning to make headway in limiting the blaze. "The overall development is positive," firefighters in the province of Castellon, where the fire broke out on Thursday afternoon, said on Twitter. The fire has already burnt 3,800 hectares of vegetation and led to the evacuation of 1,500 people in the Valencia area. More than 500 men are still fighting the flames. IMAGES
