US still has 'hope' but 'realistic' on Niger: State Dept

Description

The United States says it still held out hope for reversing Niger's coup but was "realistic" as it condemned military leaders' refusal to let in a West African mission. "We do still have hope, but we were also very realistic," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters, a day after acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland paid an unannounced visit to Niger that made no clear progress.
