Following the EU's decision to lift its ban on Ukrainian grain imports, President Volodymyr Zelensky urges neighbouring countries to do the same and support the nation at war. "It is important that European unity works bilaterally," Zelensky says, "Europe always wins when agreements work and promises are kept."
The Polish government on Tuesday agreed to extend a ban on Ukrainian grain imports unilaterally even if the current EU restrictions expire on September 15. "Regardless of the (European) Commission's further decision, we will not open the border to Ukrainian grain after that date," the government said in a statement. The statement said the government was still looking to extend the ban at the EU level but would do so in any case. FRANCE 24's Gulliver Cragg reports.
The on-and-off controversy over tariff-free imports of Ukraine grain coming into the European Union is back on the agenda.
Poland, Hungary and Slovakia has moved to temporarily prohibit the import of tariff-free Ukrainian grain.
The decision seeks to soothe the rising anger of farmers in central Europe, who say they are losing huge amounts of money to a glut of Ukrainian grain on the market.
