  • Automobili Lamborghini celebrates 60 years as an icon

Sixty years ago, in an area that at the time was open countryside, construction of the Automobili Lamborghini factory began. The company was established on May 6, 1963, realizing Ferruccio Lamborghini’s dream of becoming a manufacturer of sports cars, an industry back then dominated by just a few brands.Right from the start, the founder and his very young engineers showed a passion for innovation and a desire to disrupt the dogmas of the sports car world, which were truly groundbreaking and led to a radical revolution. These values, which still form the cornerstone of the company today, would lead to the birth of legendary cars such as the Miura, a car which coined the term “supercar” and that has since inspired the entire automotive industry with its spirit and its styling. Over the years, Automobili Lamborghini has continued to evolve, creating icons of unique style, technology and performance, inspiring entire generations and millions of people by sharing its DNA and the values on which it was founded. On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Automobili Lamborghini is organizing a series of events worldwide, each unique but all engaging customers and their Lamborghinis; the official Lamborghini Clubs; and the dealerships and fans around the world.

  • The beating heart of Lamborghini - A radical change of thinking

Thanks to the double overhead camshaft solution for each cylinder bank, a first for engines designed for production cars, the ‘V’ angle of the engine could be increased, which meant that the center of gravity could be lowered. For the Miura, the transverse rear mid-engine layout was chosen to achieve better weight distribution and to shorten the car’s wheelbase. The gearbox and differential casing were integrated into the powertrain, helping to make the overall assembly of this legendary super sports car more compact.

  • Lamborghini Polo Storico at Rétromobile Paris to unveil the latest restoration - the Miura SV owned by Jean Todt

Polo Storico unveiled a very special and completely restored Miura SV at Rétromobile (6 – 10 February), the Paris show devoted to classic cars, in front of the eyes of its illustrious owner, Jean Todt, currently President of the FIA, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile. During the handover ceremony, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stefano Domenicali personally handed the keys of the restored Miura SV to its lucky proprietor: “I’ve had a passion for beautiful cars from a very young age. The Miura SV was a dream car to me. I even had a scale model. Now, many years later, I feel very blessed to own a real one,” said Jean Todt. This was the culmination of a painstaking process lasting 13 months, which involved the complete dismantling of the car, making it possible to verify each and every detail: from the markings on the frame, body, and interiors to the numbering and dating present on the other components. Polo Storico also verified the vehicle’s conformity with the notes present in the assembly books stored in the Lamborghini archives. During these months, Mr. Todt regularly visited the Polo Storico to observe the restoration process from close up: “It’s been exciting to follow the evolution of the car. I still haven’t quite realized that the process has now come to an end. I need to take the time to digest and comprehend that this is now reality. In the Seventies, a dear friend of mine, the famous singer Jacques Dutronc, owned a Miura. He loaned it to me to go to the Montecarlo Grand Prix but, before I did, I went to the Champs Elisées to buy a newspaper at one in the morning. Back then, I never thought that, in a later chapter in my life, I could find a beautiful one, own it and have it restored to perfection, thanks to the Polo Storico.”
