Thousands of people gathered on Tuesday in Turkey's Hatay region, at 04:17 AM, the exact same hour a devastating earthquake hit the country a year ago, killing more than 53,500 people. Demonstrators chanted "we won't forgive, we won't forget", lit candles and scuffled with police when the latter tried to block a road. The Red Cross appeals for more than $100 million to provide desperately needed assistance to Morocco, days after a powerful earthquake killed more than 2,900 people. "We are seeking 100 million Swiss francs to be able to deliver on the most pressing needs at this time," says Caroline Holt, the global director of operations at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
