A Russian missile hit a five-story apartment building in Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine on Thursday, according to police.
Images released by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine show firefighters at the scene following a Russian strike on a warehouse in Kharkiv. In the past 10 days Russia carried out around "190 mass strikes with missiles, kamikaze drones and artillery in 16 Ukrainian regions and in the city of Kyiv," a spokesperson for Ukraine's emergency services, Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, said during a briefing. The aftermath of an overnight Russian strike in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia leaves a picture of death and destruction, with dozens dead and at least 49 people in hospital as a result of the strike. The attacks, which come a day after a key bridge linking Russia to Crimea was partially destroyed in an explosion, appear to have hit residential apartment blocks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram denounced the 'merciless strikes on peaceful people' as 'absolute evil' perpetrated by 'savages and terrorists'.
The death toll from a Russian missile attack on apartment blocks in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia rose to 11 on Friday as the city was hit again by missiles and — for the first time — by explosive packed drones. FRANCE 24's Gulliver Cragg reports from Zaporizhzhia.
