L’IA et les drones de combat, le mariage qu’attendaient les militaires commence à se concrétiser. Le groupe français Thales a dévoilé ce 16 octobre sa dernière technologie, nommée Swarm Master, basée sur l’intelligence artificielle et intégré à des mini-drones. Sur un tarmac ensoleillé en région parisienne, les ingénieurs du géant de la défense ont mis en scène l’avenir des zones de combat. La saturation du champ de bataille par les drones étant déjà une réalité dans la guerre entre la Russie et l’Ukraine, l’entreprise, ainsi que ses partenaires Icarus Swarm et Scalian, ont imaginé des engins qui pourraient se passer des pilotes. Concrètement, un opérateur reste dans la boucle pour lancer la mission, mais l’essaim de drone, lui, décolle et réagit sur le front en fonction des éléments qu’il détecte. Plusieurs appareils, fabriqués par la société Parrot attentent sagement les instructions avant de décoller. Le militaire leur ordonne par exemple d’inspecter une zone avant de s’y déplacer en véhicule. Les drones bourdonnent au-dessus d’un bois et détectent ce qui ressemble à des mines sur le chemin. Ils vont alerter dans la foulée l’escouade et lui proposer des itinéraires différents.
