President Vladimir Putin on Thursday signed a bill revoking Russia's ratification of a global nuclear test ban, a move that Moscow said was needed to establish parity with the United States.
The upper house of the Russian parliament has voted to rescind Russia's signing of a 1996 international nuclear test ban treaty. The treaty was never ratified by the US, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea, Israel, Iran or Egypt.
“We have more such weapons than the NATO countries. They know about it, and all the time we are being persuaded to start negotiations on reductions. The hell with them, you know, as our people say,” Russia's President has said.
Putin announced the planned deployment of short-range nuclear weapons in Belarus earlier this year in a move widely seen as a warning to the West as it stepped up military support for Ukraine.

U.S.-led air strikes hit 10 units of Islamic State fighters in Syria in recent days as well as militants with the al Qaeda-linked Khorasan Group. Jillian Kitchener reports.
