Social prejudices against single women renting homes in Iran

Description

Tehran (Iran), Feb 2 (EFE), (Camera: Marina Villén).- Renting a home in large Iranian cities is complicated for a large part of the population due to high prices; but divorced women face another problem apart from the economic one: social prejudice. It took divorced teacher Mahshid Akrami Puya more than six months to rent an apartment in Tehran. She ended up asking her father for help in dealing with real estate agents and, in the end, they came to the conclusion that it was necessary to lie to get the landlord to agree. FOOTAGE OF THE CITY OF TEHRAN, INLCUDING STATEMENTS FROM DIVORCED TEACHER MAHSHID AKRAMI PUYA TRANSLATION-Its a traditional society where a single woman or a divorced woman experiences a lot of social discrimination, it is a serious problem because normally landlords have conditions were they won't rent a house to a divorced woman or a single woman, because they think a woman should be with a man or a woman is not capable of renting alone.
