The Democratic Party took back the White House. But, the party lost seats in the House and Senate. Political insiders, Democrats, and their donors have blamed far left Democratic Socialists and Progressives, like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. The media has also been brutal with the facts, placing the Democratic failures squarely at the feet of Progressives, AOC and her Squad. In an interview Ocasio-Cortez told the NY Times a defeated and demoralized AOC said she might quit politics. Her decision will depend on the hostility of her own party towards progressive causes. "I don't even know if I want to be in politics," she told The Times.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized her GOP colleagues who are reportedly reluctant to impeach. Republicans are reporting they fear death threats from Trump's supporters. Ocasio-Cortez argued that many progressives have dealt with death threats for years. She stated it's a "privilege" for GOP members to be facing this danger for the first time. Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building last week violently, causing chaos.
There are rumors swirling that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eying Chuck Schumer's senate seat. New York political insiders think she will try to primary Schumer in 2022. New York State's Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs has urged AOC not to primary Schumer. Jacobs told the NY Post AOC would "absolutely" lose if she challenged Schumer. When asked if she would run for Senate, she has previously said that she doesn't know.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Republican Sen. Rand Paul are publicly feuding. What are they fighting over? Whether members of Congress should receive a COVID-19 vaccine before healthcare workers and the elderly. Paul argued that it would be "inappropriate" to jump the line ahead of frontline workers and the elderly. AOC insisted that lawmakers need to set an example for Americans and instill confidence about the vaccine. The government has made vaccines available to members of Congress in order to ensure continuity of government and protect national security.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez does not think Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer should head the Democratic party. In new podcast with the Intercept on Wednesday AOC blasted Schumer and Pelosi. "We need new leadership in the Democratic Party." The criticism comes as stimulus talks between the Democratic leaders and their Republican counterparts are ongoing. According to Business Insider Ocasio-Cortez suggested intimated that she should lead the party.
